How to Get There

Bus from Izmir

To reach Ephesus from Izmir, one of the easiest ways is by bus. At Izmir’s main bus terminal, you can find many local travel agencies that have buses which drive directly to the historical site. You can reach the bus terminal by taking a cab or one of the minibuses from Basmane Square that goes directly there. The bus journey from Izmir to Ephesus lasts about 1.5 hours and costs around 10 Turkish Liras.

If you prefer a more personalized mode of transportation, you can negotiate with one of Izmir’s cab drivers to drive you to Ephesus. It is approximately 85 kilometers (53 miles) away and the cab driver may charge around 120TL for four people roundtrip, including waiting time. History

Temple of Artemis

Ephesus began its life with the famous Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The temple was once located in Selçuk and served as a significant religious site. Unfortunately, today, only traces of its grandeur can be seen, but it remains an important part of Ephesus’ history.

Capital of Asia Minor

After the city was relocated to its current area, it was declared the capital of Asia Minor by the first Roman emperor, Augustus. This declaration brought prosperity and led to a large increase in the population, reaching around 400,000 people during its peak.
